Our Adventure

Trekking for Kids and Mountain Lodges of Peru are pleased to offer this special 7 day hiking expedition through the Lares Valley to Machu Picchu in 2024. Mountain Lodges of Peru is an award-winning collection of boutique lodges in the remote mountains of Peru, and they have partnered with Trekking for Kids to offer a trip that combines adventure and purpose in one of the most spectacular mountainous areas of that country, the Lares Valley. Machu Picchu is the final destination in what promises to be a memorable and rewarding trip.

This trip offers a variety of options each day, from long, challenging hikes to more relaxing cultural activities in each location that gives a true, authentic glimpse into the communities of Andean people that have remained unchanged for centuries.

This unique trip will begin in Cusco, the ancient Incan Capital and a vibrant city full of history, Spanish and Incan architecture, and wonderful culture. Travelers will then embark on the trek through the Lares Valley. Each day, trekkers will have a choice of activity, whether its a vigorous long hike to the next lodge, or participate in a sampling of cultural site tour or activities, such as a cooking class, or a visit to a remote village, with true flexibility. Transportation to each lodge is available, if desired. The Lares Valley is known as the weavers valley and is an area known for its people whose lives seem untouched by the outside world. Ringed by stunning Andean mountains, the area is a unique Peruvian cultural experience.

Our Trek will be fully supported by a local trekking company and led by experienced local guides. No previous trekking experience needed, but we require that all Trekkers be in good physical condition and able to hike for several hours, non-stop, carrying a daypack. It’s important that a good physical conditioning program be undertaken at least two months before departure.

Our Work

The unique experience with Mountain Lodges of Peru immerses the traveler in the historic, cultural, and natural beauty of the high Andes; along the way, we will work to improve the lives of children living in remote, beautiful Peruvian mountains, making capital improvements on the Huacahausi school in that region. Most of the work will be completed in advance of our arrival, and we will spend a day during the trek visiting the school and the project, which makes the fundraising effort so rewarding. Each participant will be asked to raise a minimum of $1,000, which is tax-deductible, to support the work, and all money raised goes directly to the project.

This expedition is limited to 16 people. Exclusions include airfare to Cusco, tips for guides, insurance, alcoholic drinks, and lunch on arrival and meals on the day of departure.

• 18 years or older

• Willing to raise minimum $1000 of tax-deductible donations for orphanage projects

3 Step Process

1. Apply • Fill out the online application (link will be provided with invitation)
• Pay $500 deposit ($50 non-refundable)

2. Prepare • Read Information and Fundraising Packet from TFK
• Start a training regimen if not already exercising regularly
• Fundraise for projects at school
• Gather all necessary gear for the Trek
• Pay remaining Expedition fees
• Arrange flights

3. Experience • Arrive in-country.
• Enjoy a trip of a lifetime!
