ITALY DOLOMITE TREK 2021

THIS TRIP IS FULL! If you want to be placed on a wait list contact us.

Join Trekking for Kids for a special opportunity to trek through one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world and one of the most spectacular countries in Europe. Not only will we have the chance to see the famous jagged peaks of the Dolomites, but we will also have the opportunity to visit the northern cities of Verona, Cortina d'Ampezzo, and Trento; and if you continue on with the optional add on to the Amalfi Coast then you will visit Venice, Ravello, Amalfi, Positano, and Rome. A few other highlights include a wine tour to a local vineyard outside of Trento and a mozzarella cheese making tour at a local farm near Amalfi in the south. If you are interested to experience all the beauty that Italy has to offer and at the same time want to make life a little better for the refugees that have found their way to Italy, join us this fall for a trip of a lifetime.

Italy Trek

Our Work

Our trip begins in the picturesque city of Verona where we will wander the ancient cobblestone streets while taking in the beauty of this historic place. It will be hard not to fall in love with this town during our short visit. Then we will continue on to northern city of Trento, the gateway to the Italian Alps where we will start our trek after spending a few days working with the non-profit, Centro Astalli. We will be assisting them with the work they are doing for refugees who have been relocated to that area. We’ll spend a day going on an outing with the refugee families and children and also spend some time finishing up the projects we will help fund. This is a unique opportunity for us to be able to assist with the refugee crisis in the region where we will be trekking.

The Dolomite Trek

The Dolomites, or Dolomiti in Italian, is a mountainous region that is part of the Northern Italian Alps. It is dominated by 18 majestic peaks spread across different regions where three main languages including German, Italian and Ladin are spoken. During the First World War, the front line between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian forces ran through the Dolomites. On our last day we will be walking through an open air museum of tunnels and trenches from the war.

Our trek begins 1.5 hours from Trento where we will take a short cable car ride to the start of our trail. Our 6-day trek will take us across the most beautiful parts of the Dolomite mountains from Trento to Cortina d'Ampezzo, the host city of the 1956 winter Olympic games. We will pass through the Catinaccio-Rosengarten, Sassolungo – Langkofel, Sella, Fanes, Tofane, and Sesto groups on our trek, while staying in high mountain huts (called rifugio) along the way.

Trekkers will carry a day pack; all other items will be transported from hut to hut except for the first night. Our days will be filled with hiking through some of the most surreal mountain landscapes and eating delicious home-cooked Italian food in alpine restaurants overlooking some of the best views anywhere on the planet. We will hike 5-7 hours a day, over varied terrain. We require that all Trekkers be in excellent physical condition. It’s important that a good physical conditioning program be undertaken at least three months before departure.

Amalfi Coast Trek: Optional Add On

After finishing the Dolomite trek we will have a free day to visit either Venice or Bologna before catching a flight to Naples to start our Amalfi Coast adventure. From Naples we will have a private transfer to the beautiful town of Ravello perched high on the cliffs above the town of Amalfi where we will begin our first day's trek down to Amalfi. From Amalfi we will spend the next two days hiking from town to town visiting Conca dei Marini, Praiano, and Positano by way of the many trails and stairs that link these towns and then returning each day by boat to our home base in Amalfi. The stunning white washed villages alongside the sea make a perfect setting for our southern Italy experience. After our time on the Amalfi Coast we will return to Rome for the last day to wander the streets of the "Eternal City" before saying arrivederci to bella Italia.
