Morocco Family Trek 2014: Mt. Toubkal

OUR EXPEDITIONS   >
MOROCCO FAMILY TREK 2014

Orphanage Work

Our expedition begins in Marrakesh, Morocco; the famous "Red City," in the shadows of the Atlas mountains.

Patagonia, Argentina

Enjoy the day wandering the souks and colorful medinas, and at night the Djemaa el-Fna square where at dusk the square comes to life with snake charmers, acrobats, music and amazing food. The next day we travel to the white-walled port city of Essaouria on the Atlantic coast where we will spend the next several days helping an orphan and at risk- children's home. We will spend four fun filled days playing with the children, working on improvement projects at their home and taking them on a field trip to a local point of interest. The days spent at the children's home will be very rewarding and memorable as we will not only see firsthand how the money we raised was put to use, but we will also be able to get to know these amazing kids and their fascinating Moroccan culture. After saying farewell, we travel back to Marrakesh and then on to the second part of our journey.

Mt. Toubkal Trek and Camel Trek

Our 4-day, 35 mile trek to the top of North Africa’s tallest mountain and Morocco’s tallest mountain, Mt. Toubkal, at 13,671 ft, in the Atlas mountain range will take us through incredible scenery of arid desert and high mountain peaks. From the top of Mt. Toubkal, on a clear day, you can see as far away as the Sahara desert and the Atlantic Ocean. Along the way we will be able to experience the culture and way of life of the Berber people who inhabit these mountains as we discover a side of Morocco that has changed little over the centuries.

Our trek will be led by local guides and fully supported. We will trek an average of 5-7 hours a day in hot temperatures carrying only a daypack. We will stay in mountain refuges and basic guesthouses along the way. We require that all Trekkers be in good physical condition and able to hike for several hours non-stop, carrying a daypack. It’s important that a good physical conditioning program be undertaken a couple of months before departure.

After completing our trek we will embark on another exciting adventure; an overnight camel trek into the desert, complete with a night in a Bedouin tent and a deliciously prepared traditional Berber feast. Afterwards, we travel back to Marrakesh for one final evening in Morocco.
