Bhutan Trek 2017: Chomolhari
OUR EXPEDITIONS >
BHUTAN TREK 2017
Join Trekking for Kids in a unique and exclusive opportunity to trek through the magnificent mountains of the happiest kingdom in the world, Bhutan. Immerse yourself in the gentle culture, experience the drama of the landscape, and make life a little better for the orphaned and at-risk children living in Bhutan. Children without resources or parents are typically cared for in a monastery, so our work will focus on improving living conditions in a select monastery in the capital region.
The Trek
We start our adventure in the city of Paro, acclimatizing by hiking to the Tasking Monastery, an important pilgrim site for Buddhists and built on a sheer cliff face 900 meters above the valley floor. After visiting the Monastery and ancient temples in the area, we will attend the Paro Tsechu Festival, a cultural and religious festival welcoming people from all walks of life, including locals who walk miles in their finest to participate. After the festival, we begin our trek by following the Chomolhari River, climbing through forests and meadows. Seven more days of trekking through breathtaking scenery, remote villages, and cultural and historic treasures, taking us through multiple mountain passes - the highest of which is 4890 meters - will give the trekker a complete and thorough experience of this beautiful mountain kingdom. After the trek we will spend a couple of nights in Thimphu and Punakha, both beautiful cities full of rich history.
Our Work
We will work at a select Monastery in the Paro region, home to orphaned and at-risk children. The project is to be determined, and our schedule will include one day prior to the trek working to complete the project we have funded and participating in activities with the children.
